Aspens

The Aspen if my favourite tree. It has such striking features with its silver trunks dotted with dark eyes and a foliage that changes throughout the seasons from vivid green to bright yellows, orange and reds. In the winter its stark regimented trunks also offer great photography.

Growing only at altitude they can be found across most of the rugged areas of the USA and in particular the Rocky Mountains. Groups of aspen grow on common root stocks and this results in the wide variety of colours that can be found across the mountainside in the fall as each clump can change colour a different times.
